LOUISVILLE (-3.5) vs. Kentucky

With the Kentucky offense being rebuilt and the defense improving I had the Wildcats marked as an “under”. Apparently I was no more perceptive then others as this total dropped 10 pts from opening 68. Louisville has their own issues with just 9 starters returning, losing 7/8 WR, breaking in new OC Brohm and trying to improve a defense that allowed 33 PPG. After being 16-1 ATS on this field going into 2007 they enter this year on a run of 2-6 ATS as fav. Offensive edge to Cards, defensive edge to Kentucky and potential value to a home team that would have been favored by nearly 2 TD’s on this field in week 1 of LY.

Michigan -3.5 over Utah 3:30 pm

Everyone has written off the Wolverines, and the season hasn’t even started yet. Now that the lawsuits and transfers have been settled, it’s time for new head coach Rich Rodriguez, to show what got him the big bucks. Once he gets a few lean fast lineman, he will chance the face on the conference. Michigan still returns 10 starters, and several are playmakers, but no one has them in a Top Twenty anywhere.
Utah is a popular pick to go undefeated and head into a BCS bowl game.
Not so fast, I think the Wolverines will give them all they can handle on this tough road trip to the Big House.

SMU at RICE 8 pm

Apparently visitors to this stadium have been lulled asleep as the Owls have gone 29-15 ATS on this field L10Y. A more outstanding figure to this handicapper is the fact that the Rice defense allowed 43 PPG on 511 YPG LY. Their hopes continue to hinge on QB Clement. The story at SMU will be quite different. Enter first year coach Jones who took a 0 win Hawaii team to 9 victories in his first season on the Islands. There is no question that in time his Red Gun Attack will dominate the conference. Jones projects a mid September break out date. Savvy investors may wish to get ahead of the curve knowing that small risk in early games could mushroom to multiple profits by year end.

Vanderbilt is returning only 10 starters this year, including three on offense. They lost three to the NFL draft, including Earl Bennett who
was a scoring machine. The Commodores do have things together at
the QB position, and have talent at running back. The offensive line
lost five starters. On defense, the secondary is the strength led by
cornerback D.J. Moore, who was 1st team SEC last year.
Miami is back from a division championship, even though they were 108th in scoring. Look for more of the same from the Redhawks, who have a very inexperienced backfield with no real playmakers. The defense returns nine starters, including the best linebacker groups in the MAC conference. Clayton Mullins was the MAC Defensive Player of the Year and he returns to shore up the D.
Vandy is still the better offense here, but the Miami defense is solid and they look to be holding the cards here. I look for a low scoring start to the season for both teams.
