I remember Michael Jackson from The Jackson Five. Me, and most of my pre-teen friends, had a crush on him. As we grew older, and MTV was in its infancy, we were mesmerized by his Thriller video and that incredibly creative and indefinable something special that launched him in to a superstardom….influencing countless thousands of today’s performers.
As a mother, I simply viewed him as a child molester. A tortured freak that had surgically altered his face and body to try to become this weird little white effeminate man. I was stunned that this freak could be the object of such mindless devotion ..given what he had done.
Yet, there seems to be such a bizarre duality about him. For instance, he apparently holds the Guinness book record for the most amount of charities donated to by one individual. Millions and millions of dollars donated to help relieve the suffering of hundreds of thousands of children. Including of course the reported $20 million payoff to the one he “didn’t” molest. How can you explain this conflicted picture?
But in the end, he was just Katherine’s son…Janet’s brother..and Paris’ daddy..who isn’t ever coming home again.
